Cody's Journey
Critics disliked the fact that Cody was only 14, and also did not agree to the decision to pair him with Julianne Hough, nine years Simpson's senior. Hough did not feel uncomfortable dancing with Simpson and ultimately the criticism was later forgotten.
In Week 1, Cody and Julianne danced a Salsa to "If You Had My Love" by Jennifer Lopez. Surprisingly, the dance failed to impress, and was mostly criticized for the age difference between Simpson and Hough. Julianne argued that there was no way to fix this. The dance got a cold score of 23 out of 40 and landed Cody in eigth place on the judge's leaderboard.
During Week 3, Cody and Julianne danced a Tango to "Hot & Cold" by Katy Perry. The dance was reviewed better, but still scored badly with the judges, scoring only 26 points, landing Cody and Julianne in thirteenth place for the night.
In Week 4, Cody and Julianne were first up to dance, and they danced a Viennese Waltz to "Bubbly" by Colbie Caillat. The judges liked the dance, Carrie Ann calling it Simpson's best dance, but still, no 9's were awarded and Cody and Julianne scored 28 points, landing them in a tie for thirteenth place with Tina Fey.
During Week 5, Cody ditched Julianne to dance a Cha-Cha-Cha to "Trouble", by P!nk, with Reese Witherspoon, as part of the Partner Ditch Week. Season 20 quarterfinalist Amy Adams guest judged the dance and gave it a 10. They also danced a team dance Jive to "The Middle" by Jimmy Eats World. This time it was scored by Adam Levine, who gave the dance a 9. Cody scored a total of 67 out of 80 for the night. Cody's low scores finally outnumbered his supporters, and he was eliminated from the competition later that week with Lil Wayne.
