Steve's Journey
After getting the call to do DWTS, Steve went on the record stating that he was super excited but not doing very well technique-wise. This scared him into thinking he would fail terribly.
In Week 1, Steve and Chelsie danced a Foxtrot to "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by Rod Stewart (the song which opens Carell's film, Evan Almighty). The judges were pleasantly surprised by the sweet, light-hearted approach Steve had taken to his dance. They scored a very impressive 27 out of 40 and landed in fourth place on the overall leaderboard that night.
During Week 3, Steve and Chelsie danced a Jive to "You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall & Oates. The dance got good comments, although Valerie Hashburntar didn't seem to like it. The dance scored 27 points, sadly landing Steve and Chelsie in twelth place that night.
In Week 4, Steve and Chelsie danced a Viennese Waltz to "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" by Elton John. The judge's saw an improvement in Steve, and awarded him two 8's and two 9's, or an overall score of 34 points. He came in seventh place on the judges leaderboard that night.
During Week 5, Steve ditched Chelsie to dance a Foxtrot to "So Happy Together", by the Turtles, with Tina Fey, as part of the Partner Ditch Week. Season 45 quarterfinalist Julie Andrews guest judged the dance and gave it a 10. They also danced a team dance Salsa to "Show Me How You Burlesque" by Christina Aguilera. This time it was scored by Kamie Crawford, who gave the dance a 9. Steve scored a total of 72 out of 80 for the night.
For Week 6, Steve and Chelsie danced a Paso Doble to "Espana Cani" from Shall We Dance. The dance was not raved by the judges and scored 34 total points, landing Steve and Chelsie in a shocking tie for tenth place with Logan Lerman. Many were shocked as Steve and Chelsie landed in the bottom-three this week, only to be saved by the elimination of Logan Lerman and Zooey Deschanel.
In Week 7, Steve and Chelsie danced a Quickstep to "Green Light" by John Legend. The judges gave it 34 points as they felt Steve had not made a comeback from Week 6. They also danced in a Jitterbug Marathon to "In The Mood" by Glenn Miller. They were the sixth couple voted out and were awarded an extra 6 points, giving them a total of 40 out of 50 for the night.
For Week 8, Steve and Chelsie danced a Cha-Cha-Cha to "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf. The judges liked it for the most part. Valerie said it wasn't too great. They scored a 33 for technique and a 35 for performance for a total of 68 out of 80.
During Week 9, Steve and Chelsie danced a "2 in 1", a Viennese Waltz and a Samba, for only 1 set of scores. Steve surprisingly ripped his shirt off for the Samba and caused the funniest moment of the season. The judges really enjoyed the performance, aside for a negative comment from Valerie Hashburntar. The dance scored 34.
In Week 10, Steve and Chelsie danced a Tango to "Paranoid" by the Jonas Brothers. The dance got really good comments and a score of 38. They also danced a Rumba to "Seasons of Love" from RENT. This time, the dance only got 34. Their combined score for the night was 72. Steve and Chelsie were placed in the bottom-two this week. They were saved by the emotional elimination of Tina Fey, a close friend to Steve.
For Week 11, Steve and Chelsie danced a Waltz to "Smile" by Uncle Kracker. The dance got good comments, including a good review from guest judge Melanie LaPatin, and a score of 35. They also danced an instant Samba to "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. This time, the dance got good reviews and, again, and a score of 35. Their combined score for the night was 70. Steve and Chelsie again landed in the bottom-two, and were again saved as Katy Perry was sent home.
In Week 12, Steve and Chelsie danced a Salsa to "Jaleo" by Ricky Martin. The judges' only criticism is that it was not very precise. The dance got a score of 37. They also danced an Argentine Tango to "Assassin's Tango" by John Powell. The judges loved the surprising technique of the dance and gave it a 39. They got a combined total of 76 for the night. Steve and Chelsie were sadly eliminated this week in favor of Tom Hanks. They were only 1 week away from the finals.
